Here is the latest unknown organism to show up in a crayfish tank. I have no idea what it is. Don't even'know the phylum! The central mass is about 1 mm in diameter; including the mushroom like appendages, it's 2mm. They occur on the glass and on the crayfish. Any ideas?

Also posted on www.nanfa.org, where I got an answer. It is a protozoan in the genus Stentor. Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stentor_(protozoa). Very interesting that it's a single-celled animal.

You sure get some interesting things. That one looks like something playing a whole bunch trombones.

Or even a blown glass sculpture.

Harmless? And how fast does it multiply (regenerate)? Any benefit having them (it) ? Interesting reading, btw.

Seems to be just a filter feeder. I guess it's harmless.

If it was a little more colorful, it would like a creature from a Dr. Suess book.

Wow. Get a degree in biology or something so if there is a new species you can recognize and claim it as your own. With something like that appearing who knows, like said earlier, what would appear!!
